What I’m Doing in June 2018

Living on a ranch is so very different from living in a city. It’s more than just the wide open meadow, the forest of trees around me, the herd of cows I help care for, or the fact that the nearest neighbor isn’t able to look out their windows into mine. It has more to do with every schedule or routine that I create to keep me sane changes from season to season and sometimes even day to day depending on the weather.

With Spring finally making its appearance in May, it means the more labor intensive ranch work is about to start. Now, it can be a slow build up depending on the weather, but by June it will be more consistent work and it will ultimately mean less time to write. 😦 But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Now before we get into my very short list of what I’m working on in June, let me tell you what I accomplished of my to-do list in May.

  1. Designing The Warrior’s Rebellion – Done! My plan is to post the cover reveal and excerpt for The Warrior’s Rebellion this next month with the announcement for the pre-order of the book.
  2. Editing Love is Blind – Done!  Finished this around the end of the month, also renamed it to Blind Love. This will be going on pre-order sometime this year when I’m more certain of publishing dates.
  3. My Lord HadesDeath’s Lover in Paperback – Done! I finished this around the first few weeks of May. I was hoping that the reviews for the paperback of My Lord Hades would link up with the eBook, but no such luck. That leaves My Lord Hades with a pathetic star rating that I can’t change. 😦

So that is what I finished, let’s move on to June’s to-do list!

Finish Writing The Dark God

At least this is my goal.  Sorry to say it, but I’m still working on The Dark God, book #2 in the Children of Khaos: The Rebellion Series because I hit a major snag in the story that took me a while and two other people to help me work through it. I ended up tossing nearly 20,000 words into my deleted scenes folder. I might find a use for them someday, or I might not.

As of writing this, I was nearly back to 45,000 words in the manuscript and if nothing else happens and I work hard, I should have this done soon and start working on The Iron Queen. But until I finish this book, I’ve told myself that I won’t be focusing on any other writing projects.

Setting Up Summer Learning Time

Every May for the past 5 years I’ve spend most of May working on a summer learning schedule for our daughters, Miss T and Miss K, that works with my work schedule. I do this in the hopes that the girls will continue to learn throughout the summer months and not lose too much of what they learned throughout the School year, but still have fun that doesn’t include technology to entertain them.

Each year, the girls have more and more learning they can do without me and I learn more about what I do and don’t want to do for next year. This year I found a Math packet for each of them that reviews the math that they did in their respective grades and what they will be learning in the grades they will be heading into. They will also be required to read daily and write a book report on the books that they finished, and by their request, I’ve also added story writing, music practice, more advanced life skills lessons that our girls have dubbed Arts & Crafts, and harder chores for them to do around the ranch to their summer schedules.

Now I’m not going to list all the websites where I’ve gotten my information from, but for those interested, much of what I’ve done each year can be found on my Pinterest board.

So that is my plan for the rest May in June. I’m looking forward to spending more time with my girls this Summer.

Wishing you all the best,

Stephannie Beman

May 2018 Updates From Stephannie’s Desk

Yippeee! It’s time for another update on what the Hell I’m doing, because most of the time I’m not sure and neither are you!

Besides, you all really want to know what I’m doing, right? Hello? Anyone still around? *looks around and listens to the crickets chirping noisily*

Just kidding, I know there is at least one person looking forward to this post, because she told me so. 😛

And without more time-wasting, let me get started…

Writing The Dark God

Cover Coming Soon…Actually, the cover is done…Kinda. I’m letting the design percolate for a little longer so I can decide if that will be the finished cover or if I need to create a new one.

Yep! I’m still working on The Dark God, book #2 in Children of Khaos: The Rebellion Series, and until it is done I’m making this my main priority. Mostly because I refuse to place The Warrior’s Rebellion up for pre-order until I’m nearing the end of this book. The plan is to have all three books in this series published within a month of each other.

The Dark God is a romantic fantasy novel that tells the story of Persephone’s abduction by Hades and the Battle for the Underworld. It has a projected pre-order date of July 2018 and a publishing date of September 2018.

Designing The Warrior’s Rebellion

Cover Coming Soon…Same thing applies to this  cover as what I said about The Dark God cover

I’m in the process of finalizing my book cover design and formatting the interior of The Warrior’s Rebellion, book #1 in Children of Khaos: The Rebellion Series. This is a romantic fantasy novel that tells the story of Hades and Persephone as their relationship blooms and the Titan-Olympian War comes to an end. I’m looking for a projected pre-order date of June 2018 and a publishing date of August 2018.

Editing Love is Blind (Working Title)

In the process of being designed

This is a short story from the Children of Khaos: The Originals Series, Love is Blind (Working Title) is a little tidbit into the life of the nymph Tarma that is introduced in My Lord Hades.  This is a previously published short story that I’m in the process of editing and preparing to send to my editing team before publishing. I’ll also be updating the title and the old description.

Love is Blind has a projected publishing date of October 2018.

My Lord Hades & Death’s Lover are Coming to Paperback in May!

Death's Lover, book #2 in the Chilren of Khaos: The Originals

Death’s Lover (Children of Khaos: The Originals, Book #2)

My Lord Hades, author Stephannie Beman, book #1 in the Children of Khaos: The Originals series

My Lord Hades (Children of Khaos: The Originals, Book #1)

By the time you read this, My Lord Hades and Death’s Lover should be entering the proofing stage for the paperback edition.

I decided to create a lovely paperback version of all my longer stories, if for no other reason than that I want a copy of these lovely covers in print. It’s always nice to have a hard copy of all my books which is why I’m also looking forward to creating hardback version of all my books from now on. That way, I can have them for a long time to come. 😀

So that is my plan for the rest of April and into May. I’m looking forward to seeing how much I can accomplish before the Spring and Summer ranch work begins for the year.

Wishing you all the best,

Stephannie Beman

Death’s Lover is Now Available!

Book #2 of the Children of Khaos: The Originals, Death’s Lover is finally back in digital!

Now for those who just want to read your copy, feel free to ignore the rest of this post and buy Death’s Lover at: SmashwordsBarnes & NobleiBooksKobo, Scribd, Amazon USAmazon UKAmazon AU, and Amazon CA.

For those of you who want to know why the book is published a month earlier than I told everyone it would be, about the book, and read an excerpt of the story, keep reading.

Okay, so Death’s Lover has been published a whole month earlier then planned and there is a very good reason for that. When I started to get it ready for publishing, I set it up with some new distributors as a pre-order, and then I went in to update at the old book distributors I decided to use again. Only after I had input the new information, uploaded the new cover, and replaced the book document, did I realize that by updating it rather than creating a new book that I couldn’t place it up as a pre-order.

Since there are readers who have already bought it, I decided to laugh it off as learning moment and move on to the next story.

Not sure if you want to buy Death’s Lover, well let me tell you what the book is about:

Saved by a stranger, Lilith was given another chance at life. But when her ability to see a person’s death attracts the attention of the warlord Adman, her fate is sealed. Adman will do anything, kill anyone, to possess her talent. And the only one standing between him and Lilith is Death himself.

Thanatos is no stranger to death. He’s seen every possible way there was to die. When he crosses paths with Lilith, he finally sees an end to the tiresome duty of collecting the souls of dead mortals and taking them to the Underworld for judgment. But to save her, Thanatos will be forced to break every ancient law, and even a few newer ones, and in the end it might cost them both their lives.

And if you’re still unsure, have a small taste from the book:

“Don’t insult me!” Nadral shouted. “I could easily get twice as much for her!”

She reached for the latch.

“It’s all you’ll get from me,” a man growled, and the voice chilled her to her soul.

She snatched her hand back, ready to run. She needed to hide before they saw her. But it was already too late.

The door swung open, and a large man stood in the doorway, staring down at her. He hadn’t changed in five years. He was still a handsome man. His frame was fit and lean, clothed in supple leathers. His body was strong and taller than most men. Her fingers itched to release his long, sandy blond hair from its tie and run her hands through the silky length. It was his only outward show of vanity. Many of the warriors in the ranks of his army cut their hair short. But he refused after she’d once admired the color and mentioned loving longer hair on her men.

Her body warmed at the memory of long nights in his bed. Sex with Adman had been adventurous and beyond pleasant.

“Lilith?” he breathed, stepping closer to her. His brown eyes warmed, and the backs of his fingers brushed lightly against her cheek. A gesture that was both tender and possessive. “Kar’ela par’ja.

Lover of my heart.

Her heart flipped in her chest at his words and for one moment she deluded herself into thinking that he meant it. This was the man who’d come to take her from this life of slavery. She could be his again. She could be free of Nadral. All she had to do was betray everything she believed and held dear. She’d have to go with a murderer of innocent people.

“She’s mine,” Nadral snarled, grabbing her arm.

His punishing grip twisted her arm, and tears sprang to her eyes. He jerked her to his side, and she stumbled, nearly falling to her knees before regaining her feet. She dared a glance at Adman beneath her lowered eyelashes, and fear rose to swallow her whole.

His youthful face, innocent in appearance, could not hide the coldness of his soul. His look said it all. He would have her. He would destroy everything to possess her. And he would kill anyone standing between him and what he wanted.

She laid a calming hand on his arm. “Nadral, please—”

His hand struck her cheek, silencing her warning. “This is between men!” He shoved her through the doorway and she fell to her knees.

Sounds like Amazon is Pulling Book Reviews

I started the process of republishing My Lord Hades and after it went live on Amazon, I thought little more about it. After, I announced the return of My Lord Hades to the eBook scene Friday for my mailing list and Tuesday on my blog, a writer friend of mine pointed out an article about Amazon removing book reviews from their website.

Now, I don’t know the validity of all the accusations tossed Amazon’s way, but I doing what I do, I researched it. I read several articles about how Amazon has removed book reviews from its site because they decided that some of those reviews were bias due to the authors being friends with those people on social media.

For those curious, I found two articles about what is happening on why Amazon is removing reviews from k-lytics and one on how to protect your reviews from disappearing on Amazon from Author Marketing Experts. From these two sources I understand there are several reasons for Amazon doing this and some are legit reasons but others kinda suck.

For someone like me, who has so few reviews on any of my books, to lose any of them was disheartening to see. Some of the good reviews I had received on My Lord Hades in the past are now gone, taking My Lord Hades from a 4.5 star book down to a 3.1 star book. This brings the ranking of the book down and now means that it will be less noticeable in Amazon’s eBook store. Which brings me one step further from my goal to share the stories I write with those who might like them.

Oh well, shit happens in life. It’s what we do with it that shows us who we are.  😀

Finished The Warrior’s Rebellion

I’m done! And I’m so excited! I just can’t hide it!

I love the feeling of accomplishment when I finish something. The Warrior’s Rebellion is back from my awesome editing team and I’m done going through the edits. Now, I’m in the home stretch of getting this book ready to head out into the world.

Well, because it’s been a very productive month and I always party after I finish writing a book, and depending on my mood, it can also include a trip to the store to pick out something I want. In the past, I’ve chosen notebook, pens I love, a book. Rarely is it as expensive as what I’m purchasing this time around, but then I bought something I wanted to go with something I need.

In this case it will be a new printer because mine finally shit the bed. Actually, I think it’s had issues since just after we bought it several years ago, but last week it finally breathed it’s last. So I bought myself a replacement.

Since The Warrior’s Rebellion, Book 1 in The Rebellion: Children of Khaos Series is part of my overhaul of My Lord Hades, and the first third of the book, the 60,000 words I just finished writing and rewriting in some cases means that I don’t get to party too hard. Celebration over, now it’s time to get to work on The Dark God, Book 2 in the Rebellion: Children of Khaos Series.

Check it out!

Reviving the Children of Khaos Series

Yep! I’m bringing the Children of Khaos Series to life in a way that I didn’t really plan on.

Children of Khaos Series, Series Banner

Early last year, I was ready to throw the series into a drawer and start over with my writing in every way possible. By December 2017, I realized that the series deserved more respect then that. And, there are a few fans who have written me letters asking where My Lord Hades went and when is it coming back.

(I will email those who have been asking me about the book when I republish it.)

I want to take a moment to thank all those who have send emails of encouragement. You guys are the greatest! You’ve also inspired me to not only bring the Children of Khaos Series back, but write another book in the series.

But that isn’t all. I also plan to add more books.

Why did I decide to do this after swearing to never write another Children of Khaos book? Well, it wasn’t just because there are readers out their wanting more stories.

As I was working on my plans to resurrect a few books and breathe fresh air into others, I made the mistake  of starting with Death’s Lover. Even though it is the third book in the series, it had the least amount of work that needed to be done as it was the first that I had edited by one of the best editors I’ve worked with.

Reading Death’s Lover made me fall in love with the series all over again. I will confess that it is my favorite book in the entire series and it really made me want to bring the other two books up to the same level.  Plus I found a ton of teasers for future books hidden inside its pages that only add fuel to the creative fire.

That means I needed to add a few more to-dos to my ever growing to-do list. Over the next few weeks I’m going to:

  • Finish my read through of My Lord Hades (Lauralynn Elliot edited this book last year for me and I went through the edits at the time, but still felt something was a little off.). I will be tweaking some of the scenes for better clarity and removing a few that don’t need to be there.
  • Work on the rewrites of Loving the Goddess of Love and send it to my favorite editor to clean up. This book will not only gain several new scenes, but will also get a new book cover and title. I was never a fan of the original title and have wanted to change it for years now but I really didn’t have an idea what to name it. Now I do. And no I’m not going to share it with y’all yet.
  • Make notes for more stories while reading through the books, including scenes and notes for Beloved Kora.
  • Put together the front and back matter for this series so that it has an uniformed look.
  • Redo the interior formatting of Death’s LoverMy Lord Hades, and Loving the Goddess of Love, because for some reason the formatting for My Lord Hades is a little wonky.
  • Plan and design the look I want for the Children of Khaos book covers and redo all the covers. Some are getting a complete makeover, while others more of a upgrade.

I’m not sure how long this will take me, but they are near the top of my to-do list for my writing just below actually writing book #1 of the Sara Greenway Series.

Wishing you all the best!
