Heads Up! It’s an Update!

It’s been brought to my attention by my daughter that it’s been nearly a month since my last blog post and that she believes that another post is in order. She tells me that this is because if I “want to be any kind of blogger or Youtuber of note, you have to post often”. I didn’t have the heart to tell my hormonal 13 year old that I don’t want to be a blogger most days, and the idea of being a Youtuber makes me want to pull the plug on the Internet altogether.

I’m debating if that would be a good thing or a bad thing. I think I could live without it far easier than most of the other people in this house. Not that we have time to be on it all the time. They just spend more time playing on it while I only work and sometimes shop on it.

But regardless of who would and wouldn’t survive the disconnect of the computer, she was right about one thing: it is time for an update on what I’m doing.

This Website is Receiving an Update

I won’t get into too much detail as I address it in my next post. Yes, it’s already written and pre-scheduled, but only because the update post was getting way too long and I decided to split it in 2. Which means this portion of the post was written last. LOL

I Finished Editing An Angel in Tartarus

I was talking to my sister about this short story and she offered to give it a once over. She had some awesome suggestions that I took and it motivated me to send it to my editor for a once over.

New Cover Coming Soon

I got in back from my lovely editor, who I hope will always edit my stories, and went through the suggested changes. It’s now ready to republish, but since I don’t have the companion novel that goes with it edited, I’m going to wait until Loving the Goddess of Love ready to be republished.

I’m Working on Custom Orders

A family friend has commissioned a curtain from me and even provided the fabric. We owe him a lot, so I’m doing it as part of his Christmas gift. I plan to work on this project today along with two other sewing projects.

My other custom order projects include: 4 hand embroidered tea towels and a winter-themed linen table runner. The cloth for the table runner needs to be cut to size and the raw edges hemmed up, so I plan to do that when I work on the curtain.

I printed out the patterns I’m using last night, so I’ll trace them with a heat transfer pencil and get the snowmen designs transferred to the tea towels so I can start embroidering them this weekend. The table runner will wait until I’m done with the edges so I can make sure the images I printed are big enough.

Lastly, I’m using a pair of old jeans to create a cover for my hybrid Bullet Journal / Travel’s Notebook system so I can keep all my notebooks and planners in one place. Unless I decide to make 2. I want to finish before the new year when I get my new writer’s planner.

I’m Back to Writing The Lost Heir

For the past month, I’ve been working on The Lost Heir Series and I really want to finish it up. This is a series of novella length books about the Rebel Cynel and the Seer Mina whose quest to find the Lost Heir to the Empty Throne leads them down some dark paths and intertwine their fates in unexpected ways.

So far I’ve reading through Book 1, The Butcher of Jhedek Pass, to refresh my memory of the story. Then I started reading Book 2, The Warlord’s Daughter, which was basically finished and just needed a few scenes to complete the story. Now I’m moving to Book 3, Rebels & Traitors.

Rebels & Traitors is already about 17,000 words and since I’m aiming at between 20,000-30,000 for each story, I’m pretty sure that it won’t take me long to wrap that book up either.

New covers will need to be updated to fit the new titles of the books and series, much like most of the things around here. LOL

And if that wasn’t enough…

I joined NaNoWriMo 2019

This will be the first time since 2012 that I will be doing this. I’m mostly doing it to support my sister who wanted to try it out and not because I wanted to do it.

I know that NaNoWriMo is helpful to many writers, I’ve just never been one of them. In the past, it has done nothing to motive me which is why I dropped doing it after 2 years. With all the things on my plate, I’m not confident in my ability to write 50k words in November, but it can’t hurt to try.

So there you have it. That is what I’m going to be doing for the next little while. What are you guys doing? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

May 2018 Updates From Stephannie’s Desk

Yippeee! It’s time for another update on what the Hell I’m doing, because most of the time I’m not sure and neither are you!

Besides, you all really want to know what I’m doing, right? Hello? Anyone still around? *looks around and listens to the crickets chirping noisily*

Just kidding, I know there is at least one person looking forward to this post, because she told me so. 😛

And without more time-wasting, let me get started…

Writing The Dark God

Cover Coming Soon…Actually, the cover is done…Kinda. I’m letting the design percolate for a little longer so I can decide if that will be the finished cover or if I need to create a new one.

Yep! I’m still working on The Dark God, book #2 in Children of Khaos: The Rebellion Series, and until it is done I’m making this my main priority. Mostly because I refuse to place The Warrior’s Rebellion up for pre-order until I’m nearing the end of this book. The plan is to have all three books in this series published within a month of each other.

The Dark God is a romantic fantasy novel that tells the story of Persephone’s abduction by Hades and the Battle for the Underworld. It has a projected pre-order date of July 2018 and a publishing date of September 2018.

Designing The Warrior’s Rebellion

Cover Coming Soon…Same thing applies to this  cover as what I said about The Dark God cover

I’m in the process of finalizing my book cover design and formatting the interior of The Warrior’s Rebellion, book #1 in Children of Khaos: The Rebellion Series. This is a romantic fantasy novel that tells the story of Hades and Persephone as their relationship blooms and the Titan-Olympian War comes to an end. I’m looking for a projected pre-order date of June 2018 and a publishing date of August 2018.

Editing Love is Blind (Working Title)

In the process of being designed

This is a short story from the Children of Khaos: The Originals Series, Love is Blind (Working Title) is a little tidbit into the life of the nymph Tarma that is introduced in My Lord Hades.  This is a previously published short story that I’m in the process of editing and preparing to send to my editing team before publishing. I’ll also be updating the title and the old description.

Love is Blind has a projected publishing date of October 2018.

My Lord Hades & Death’s Lover are Coming to Paperback in May!

Death's Lover, book #2 in the Chilren of Khaos: The Originals

Death’s Lover (Children of Khaos: The Originals, Book #2)

My Lord Hades, author Stephannie Beman, book #1 in the Children of Khaos: The Originals series

My Lord Hades (Children of Khaos: The Originals, Book #1)

By the time you read this, My Lord Hades and Death’s Lover should be entering the proofing stage for the paperback edition.

I decided to create a lovely paperback version of all my longer stories, if for no other reason than that I want a copy of these lovely covers in print. It’s always nice to have a hard copy of all my books which is why I’m also looking forward to creating hardback version of all my books from now on. That way, I can have them for a long time to come. 😀

So that is my plan for the rest of April and into May. I’m looking forward to seeing how much I can accomplish before the Spring and Summer ranch work begins for the year.

Wishing you all the best,

Stephannie Beman

Death’s Lover is Now Available!

Book #2 of the Children of Khaos: The Originals, Death’s Lover is finally back in digital!

Now for those who just want to read your copy, feel free to ignore the rest of this post and buy Death’s Lover at: SmashwordsBarnes & NobleiBooksKobo, Scribd, Amazon USAmazon UKAmazon AU, and Amazon CA.

For those of you who want to know why the book is published a month earlier than I told everyone it would be, about the book, and read an excerpt of the story, keep reading.

Okay, so Death’s Lover has been published a whole month earlier then planned and there is a very good reason for that. When I started to get it ready for publishing, I set it up with some new distributors as a pre-order, and then I went in to update at the old book distributors I decided to use again. Only after I had input the new information, uploaded the new cover, and replaced the book document, did I realize that by updating it rather than creating a new book that I couldn’t place it up as a pre-order.

Since there are readers who have already bought it, I decided to laugh it off as learning moment and move on to the next story.

Not sure if you want to buy Death’s Lover, well let me tell you what the book is about:

Saved by a stranger, Lilith was given another chance at life. But when her ability to see a person’s death attracts the attention of the warlord Adman, her fate is sealed. Adman will do anything, kill anyone, to possess her talent. And the only one standing between him and Lilith is Death himself.

Thanatos is no stranger to death. He’s seen every possible way there was to die. When he crosses paths with Lilith, he finally sees an end to the tiresome duty of collecting the souls of dead mortals and taking them to the Underworld for judgment. But to save her, Thanatos will be forced to break every ancient law, and even a few newer ones, and in the end it might cost them both their lives.

And if you’re still unsure, have a small taste from the book:

“Don’t insult me!” Nadral shouted. “I could easily get twice as much for her!”

She reached for the latch.

“It’s all you’ll get from me,” a man growled, and the voice chilled her to her soul.

She snatched her hand back, ready to run. She needed to hide before they saw her. But it was already too late.

The door swung open, and a large man stood in the doorway, staring down at her. He hadn’t changed in five years. He was still a handsome man. His frame was fit and lean, clothed in supple leathers. His body was strong and taller than most men. Her fingers itched to release his long, sandy blond hair from its tie and run her hands through the silky length. It was his only outward show of vanity. Many of the warriors in the ranks of his army cut their hair short. But he refused after she’d once admired the color and mentioned loving longer hair on her men.

Her body warmed at the memory of long nights in his bed. Sex with Adman had been adventurous and beyond pleasant.

“Lilith?” he breathed, stepping closer to her. His brown eyes warmed, and the backs of his fingers brushed lightly against her cheek. A gesture that was both tender and possessive. “Kar’ela par’ja.

Lover of my heart.

Her heart flipped in her chest at his words and for one moment she deluded herself into thinking that he meant it. This was the man who’d come to take her from this life of slavery. She could be his again. She could be free of Nadral. All she had to do was betray everything she believed and held dear. She’d have to go with a murderer of innocent people.

“She’s mine,” Nadral snarled, grabbing her arm.

His punishing grip twisted her arm, and tears sprang to her eyes. He jerked her to his side, and she stumbled, nearly falling to her knees before regaining her feet. She dared a glance at Adman beneath her lowered eyelashes, and fear rose to swallow her whole.

His youthful face, innocent in appearance, could not hide the coldness of his soul. His look said it all. He would have her. He would destroy everything to possess her. And he would kill anyone standing between him and what he wanted.

She laid a calming hand on his arm. “Nadral, please—”

His hand struck her cheek, silencing her warning. “This is between men!” He shoved her through the doorway and she fell to her knees.

Sounds like Amazon is Pulling Book Reviews

I started the process of republishing My Lord Hades and after it went live on Amazon, I thought little more about it. After, I announced the return of My Lord Hades to the eBook scene Friday for my mailing list and Tuesday on my blog, a writer friend of mine pointed out an article about Amazon removing book reviews from their website.

Now, I don’t know the validity of all the accusations tossed Amazon’s way, but I doing what I do, I researched it. I read several articles about how Amazon has removed book reviews from its site because they decided that some of those reviews were bias due to the authors being friends with those people on social media.

For those curious, I found two articles about what is happening on why Amazon is removing reviews from k-lytics and one on how to protect your reviews from disappearing on Amazon from Author Marketing Experts. From these two sources I understand there are several reasons for Amazon doing this and some are legit reasons but others kinda suck.

For someone like me, who has so few reviews on any of my books, to lose any of them was disheartening to see. Some of the good reviews I had received on My Lord Hades in the past are now gone, taking My Lord Hades from a 4.5 star book down to a 3.1 star book. This brings the ranking of the book down and now means that it will be less noticeable in Amazon’s eBook store. Which brings me one step further from my goal to share the stories I write with those who might like them.

Oh well, shit happens in life. It’s what we do with it that shows us who we are.  😀

Reviving the Children of Khaos Series

Yep! I’m bringing the Children of Khaos Series to life in a way that I didn’t really plan on.

Children of Khaos Series, Series Banner

Early last year, I was ready to throw the series into a drawer and start over with my writing in every way possible. By December 2017, I realized that the series deserved more respect then that. And, there are a few fans who have written me letters asking where My Lord Hades went and when is it coming back.

(I will email those who have been asking me about the book when I republish it.)

I want to take a moment to thank all those who have send emails of encouragement. You guys are the greatest! You’ve also inspired me to not only bring the Children of Khaos Series back, but write another book in the series.

But that isn’t all. I also plan to add more books.

Why did I decide to do this after swearing to never write another Children of Khaos book? Well, it wasn’t just because there are readers out their wanting more stories.

As I was working on my plans to resurrect a few books and breathe fresh air into others, I made the mistake  of starting with Death’s Lover. Even though it is the third book in the series, it had the least amount of work that needed to be done as it was the first that I had edited by one of the best editors I’ve worked with.

Reading Death’s Lover made me fall in love with the series all over again. I will confess that it is my favorite book in the entire series and it really made me want to bring the other two books up to the same level.  Plus I found a ton of teasers for future books hidden inside its pages that only add fuel to the creative fire.

That means I needed to add a few more to-dos to my ever growing to-do list. Over the next few weeks I’m going to:

  • Finish my read through of My Lord Hades (Lauralynn Elliot edited this book last year for me and I went through the edits at the time, but still felt something was a little off.). I will be tweaking some of the scenes for better clarity and removing a few that don’t need to be there.
  • Work on the rewrites of Loving the Goddess of Love and send it to my favorite editor to clean up. This book will not only gain several new scenes, but will also get a new book cover and title. I was never a fan of the original title and have wanted to change it for years now but I really didn’t have an idea what to name it. Now I do. And no I’m not going to share it with y’all yet.
  • Make notes for more stories while reading through the books, including scenes and notes for Beloved Kora.
  • Put together the front and back matter for this series so that it has an uniformed look.
  • Redo the interior formatting of Death’s LoverMy Lord Hades, and Loving the Goddess of Love, because for some reason the formatting for My Lord Hades is a little wonky.
  • Plan and design the look I want for the Children of Khaos book covers and redo all the covers. Some are getting a complete makeover, while others more of a upgrade.

I’m not sure how long this will take me, but they are near the top of my to-do list for my writing just below actually writing book #1 of the Sara Greenway Series.

Wishing you all the best!

{Story Sample} One of my Favorite Scenes from Death’s Lover

Now that I’m done writing the story and have it published, I thought it would be fun to post a series of story samples from Death’s Lover.

The Story Sample:

She wanted Than in a way she’d never wanted any man before. It was more than sexual desire. It was something she had no name for and no words to describe.

Straightening, she leaned over him, not quite touching. His eyes snapped open. His hands grabbed her, their bodies twisting. She cried out, shocked and afraid.

His eyes focused. His arms closed tightly around her. His scent filled her senses.

The world blackened a second before she’d have hit the stone floor, and she stumbled, disoriented. She blinked several times. She was standing, her hands holding his shirt tightly.

She glanced toward the bed-like furniture several feet away. She should have hit the floor. The force behind his move should have broken bone. How did they get here?

“I’m sorry,” Than whispered into her neck, his hand stroking her hair much like a man with a skittish foal, although she had a feeling it was more to reassure himself than to calm her. “I didn’t hear you. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”

She frowned and pulled back to meet his eyes. “I’m not hurt. I should have known better than to wake a warrior in such a way.”

He grimaced, concern still in his eyes. “I’m not a warrior. I can’t wield a sword, at least not with any skill. Hades tried to teach me once. I was more a danger to myself than others.”

“But. . . I’ve seen the way you move, Than. You move like the best warrior, like a predator.”

He released her, moving several steps back, and she reluctantly let him go. She didn’t like the look on his face. There was such hatred and sorrow in those purple-blue eyes.

“Because I am.”

She grunted. The daemon didn’t make sense. He declared himself not a warrior one moment and changed his mind the next. “Either you are or you’re not a warrior.”

“I’m not a warrior. I’m a predator. One of the few truly dangerous ones.”

She shivered. The statement was matter-of-fact, and he was completely convinced of the truth in his words. Nothing he’d done so far could convince her that he was dangerous to her. “What are you, Than?”

“A daemon, or have you forgotten?”

A chance meeting changed the course of their lives…
Thanatos is no stranger to death. He’s seen every possible way there was to die. He’s lived with it day after day, century upon century, collecting the souls of dead mortals and taking them to the Underworld for judgment. An endless routine of tiresome duty and resounding loneliness that echoed in his heart, until she came into his life…

A second meeting will change their hearts and souls…
Saved by a stranger, Lilith never forgot the mysterious man who gave her the chance to blossom into the strong woman with a spirit of fire and a heart of ice, anymore than she can the lessons of the past. She must hide her secrets deep and never get close to anyone. Sex is merely a means to an end, and pleasure isn’t something to share with a lover, until he came back into her life…

What happens next will change the Underworld….
Lilith’s ability to see a person’s death has attracted the attention of the warlord, Adman, and seals her fate. He will do anything, kill anyone, to possess her talent. And the only one standing between him and Lilith is Death himself. Thanatos will break every ancient law, and even a few newer ones, to save her, and in the end it might cost them both their lives.
