{Writing Journal} Day 34: Snippets from The Rebel’s Bride

I didn’t get as much done as I hoped I would have today, but then I’m still getting over a bout of the flu and had some house chores that needed to be done. Hopefully, I’ll do better tomorrow.

His hand touched cold metal. The chains clank loudly against the wall, echoing in the vast room. The whispered voices quieted. The deafening silence making him uncomfortable. The rasp of a shoe on stone drew his attention to the right and the blurry shadow rushing toward him. He blinked, trying to clear his vision, preparing for a fight.

The floral and citrus scent hit him first, bringing memories of Mina to his foggy mind. The woman knelt beside him. Cool hands touched his face, cupping his cheeks. Warm lips pressed to his. The scent and taste of Mina filled his senses and before he could rethink his actions he was drawing her into his lap, kissing her back, needing this contact.

She pulled back first. “I was so afraid you wouldn’t awaken. The poison should have been lethal. And when they brought me to you…you were so weak. ”

He shook his head, holding her tightly to him, not caring what happened to him, just that he had her in his arms and she was safe. He had to keep her safe and he couldn’t do that if they killed him. The only chance he had at living life with the woman who was more important to him then the air he breathed was to take her and run. Maybe then he could protect her. Maybe then they would have a chance.
