{Working Notes 24} Research, Taxes, Change in Business

I decided to do something different with my blog in 2015 in the hopes of helping my productivity and keep me accountable by tracking my days, kind of like the online work journal/blog. You can find all the Working Notes entries here.

Up at 5am

Had to get up early this morning due to Hubby needing to go to a training for work, so I took the time to do some research on writing tasteful sex scenes in fiction, not just romance. Loved the one by Diana Gabaldon on How to Write Sex Scenes {outside link}. Sadly, it took me most of the day to realize why I recognized the name and link it to The Outlander Series.

So after a little non-fiction reading, I got the kids up and ready for school, took them up to the bus, and send them on their way. Now I can get back home for a day of work.

Needed a Creative Recharge

Working Notes, Writing UpdatesDue to some problems the last two months, of which I’m not going to share the personal details, but will say that the business side of my life was starting to suffer greatly because of, I was in desperate need of talking once more to my good writing friend. Because let’s face it, you can tell your friends and family what’s going on but unless they’re self-employed business people, they probably won’t understand, and even then, if their not writers/book cover designers there are certain parts of your job they will never understand. In some cases their advice will suck.

Anyway, after talking to an awesome writing friend last night, I woke up knowing what I need to do. Which wasn’t sitting on the couch and watching all the episodes of The Listener taped on my DVR while writing out a to-do list of things that needed to be done soon, but that was what happened. It definitely went a long way to help recharge my lagging creative battery and solidify my decision.

The Big Decision

So what is the big decision? Well, I’m no longer doing book cover designs. I can’t handle the workload with the current problems that have arisen and my schedule this month has been chaotic at best. There is no end in sight, and there is a long term problem that I’ve had to add to my daily routine of what needs to be done.

It’s no way to run a business. I’m sure the guy from Restaurant Impossible, would say the same, and then suggest I chose a focus because I’m all over the place.

Which is just what I did. I chose a focus, one that is more flexible to my needs and my lifestyle at the moment.

I chose to write. 😀

Maybe one day I’ll be able to focus on book cover designs as a business.

Payroll Taxes & the Webinar

After feeding the critters for the day, I had to go back to my tax lady for Payroll paperwork. Doesn’t matter that I’m the only one being paid out of my business, since it’s an LLC, it means I have to pay myself like an employee. Lots of fun there. 🙂

Then it was to the post office to mail everything to the IRS and back home to listen to the last webinar presentation of the day. I’m glad with everything going on this week with business taxes and the like that this is a virtual conference, otherwise there would be no way I could have gone.

While listening to the presentation on Amazon Marketing, of which there was a lot of good information, and lots that I will probably never do, I unpublished my cover design pages on this website and contacted places to have my name taken off their lists for the services.

Not looking forward to the decrease in income, but I’m really looking forward to writing and being with my family.

Well, the kids are home now and it’s time to get them feed. Hope you all have a great day!
